Gerald Mendes, an industrial engineer, is the grandson of Aristides de Sousa Mendes. His father was Luis-Filipe Mendes, one of the youngest children of Aristides and Angelina. Gerald was born in Niagara Falls, raised in Montreal, and lives in Paris. He has known about the story of his grandparents since the age of ten, and has been directly involved in programs to commemorate them since 1988, in Canada, France, Portugal, and the United States. He holds an MBA from Concordia University (Montreal) and has worked for most of his career in the area of supply chain management in the pharmaceutical industry. He is also a triathlete.
