About the Family

The BRONNER/MANDELBAUM family received visas issued by Aristides de Sousa Mendes in Bordeaux on June 19, 1940.

Maurice and Lotta BRONNER crossed into Portugal and sailed from Lisbon to New York on the vessel Lourenço Marques in January 1941.

David and Sydonia BRONNER, along with their son Fryderyk and Sydonia's sister Charlotte Julie MANDELBAUM, remained in France that summer. They returned by train to occupied Paris on a perilous journey to retrieve some goods and belongings. Before setting out for Paris they went to Toulouse, where they received a second set of Portuguese transit visas. They crossed into Portugal in November 1940 and sailed to New York on the vessel Serpa Pinto in June 1941.
