About the Family

Salvador and Gala DALÍ received visas from Aristides de Sousa Mendes in Bordeaux on June 20, 1940.

They crossed into Portugal and subsequently sailed on the Excambion from Lisbon to New York in August 1940. DALÍ's arrival in New York was one of the catalysts in the development of that city as a world art center in the post-war years.
