About the Family

The MUSZEL family received visas from Aristides de Sousa Mendes in Bordeaux on June 18, 1940.

They crossed into Portugal, where they resided in Lisbon.

After arriving in Lisbon the MUSZEL family tried to obtain visas to the United States but were refused. The Dominican Republic required would be immigrants to work on farms, but Lejzon MUZSEL was not capable of doing such work. They boarded a ship to Lourenço Marques, Mozambique, where they were supported by the Jewish Community of South Africa. Living conditions were reasonable in Mozambique, and Abraham and Sara MUSZEL attended school there. In 1945 they left Mozambique for then Palestine, where they settled.
