About the Family

The SZTEJN family received visas from Aristides de Sousa Mendes in Bordeaux on June 18, 1940.

Salomon and Liubow SZTEJN sailed on the Nea Hellas from Lisbon to New York in September 1940.

Liubow and Victoria were sisters who were married to two brothers. Abram SZTEJN, husband of Victoria CHILIMNIC and brother of Salomon SZTEJN, was a student at the University of Ghent. He remained in Belgium where he was arrested and brought to the Mechelen transit camp. From there he was deported to Auschwitz-Birkenau and murdered in 1942.
