About the Family
The WOLFF family received their visas from Aristides de Sousa Mendes in Bordeaux on June 11, 1940 when Margaret WOLFF was nine months pregnant. Eleven days later, on June 22, Evelyne was born in Bayonne.
The WECHSLER couple received their Portuguese visas from Emile Gissot in Toulouse under the authority of Aristides de Sousa Mendes on July 26, 1940 after being released from incarceration at the Gurs Internment Camp.
The extended family crossed into Portugal. The WOLFF family subsequently traveled on the ship Serpa Pinto from Lisbon to New York in March 1941.
The WECHSLER couple sailed on the ship Siboney from Lisbon to New York in May 1941.
