The American Jewish Committee and the Holocaust Museum Houston are jointly sponsoring a commemoration of Aristides de Sousa Mendes in conjunction with International Holocaust Remembrance Day. Louis-Philippe Mendes, grandson of Aristides de Sousa Mendes, will speak. All events will be held at the Holocaust Museum Houston.

In conjunction with the above events, the Sousa Mendes Foundation presents an exhibition of original artifacts, “Sousa Mendes and his Visas to Freedom.” On view will be passports with the original Sousa Mendes visas along with personal items of refugees rescued by Aristides de Sousa Mendes.

In June 2013, Pinkhasov followed a group of visa recipient families, along with members of the Sousa Mendes family, as they embarked on a pilgrimage retracing their families’ footsteps of 73 years earlier. They were “searching for Sousa Mendes” – looking for traces and clues of a lost history in an effort to understand their personal pasts.
