About the Family

The BERKOWICZ family was in Toulouse, France on June 22, 1940, and presumably obtained Portuguese visas from Emile Gissot under the authority of Aristides de Sousa Mendes.

They crossed into Portugal and traveled from Lisbon to Santos, Brazil on the Serpa Pinto in October 1940. From there they continued to New York on the vessel Brazil in February 1941.
