The BERSCHANSKI family received a visa from Aristides de Sousa Mendes in Bordeaux on June 17, 1940.
The HERSZKOWICZ and JOUDANIN families received visas signed by vice-consul Manuel Vieira Braga, following instructions from Aristides de Sousa Mendes, in Bayonne, France on June 22, 1940.
This family group crossed into Portugal, where they resided in Curia, Porto, and Figueira da Foz.
The BERSCHANSKI and JOUDANIN families sailed on the ship San Miguel from Lisbon to New York in May 1941. The HERSZKOWICZ family sailed on the ship Guine from Lisbon to New York, also in May 1941.
