About the Family

David CZERESNIA, stateless, was imprisoned in the Cours du Médoc internment camp in Bordeaux, France in June 1940. The entire camp requested and received visas from Aristides de Sousa Mendes.

Elsa CZERESNIA is presumed to have received a visa from Sousa Mendes as well.

The CZERESNIA couple crossed into Portugal and sailed on the vessel Nea Hellas from Lisbon to New York in September 1940.

They eventually changed their last name to CHERRY.
