About the Family
On October 16, 1939, the EICHLER couple, Austrian citizens, were inscribed in the Sousa Mendes visa registry book and then crossed out.
On November 15, 1939, Aristides de Sousa Mendes requested permission from the Portuguese Ministry of Foreign Affairs to grant visas to the EICHLER family.
The family was subsequently imprisoned in the Cours du Médoc internment camp in Bordeaux, France in June 1940. Ultimately, the entire camp requested and received visas from Aristides de Sousa Mendes.
