About the Family
The HEYMANS family received visas issued by Aristides de Sousa Mendes in Bordeaux on June 18, 1940.
They crossed into Portugal and subsequently sailed on the ship Nea Hellas from Lisbon to New York in July 1940. Isidor and Henriette HEYMANS, along with their children Harold and Ellen were detained for a special inquiry due to an incomplete visa, but were eventually admitted into the US.
