About the Individual

The Russian-born French stage actress Véra KORÈNE, born Rebecca Vera KORETZKY, received a visa from Aristides de Sousa Mendes in Bordeaux on June 16, 1940.

She crossed into Portugal and sailed on the vessel Santa Elena from Lisbon to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in August 1940, together with Henry TORRÈS. They were both stripped of their French citizenships by the Vichy Government shortly thereafter.
