The SLONIMSKI and TUWIM couples received visas from Aristides de Sousa Mendes in Bordeaux on June 14, 1940.
Antoni SLONIMSKI and Julian TUWIM were prominent Polish poets. Janina KONARSKA, wife of Antoni SLONIMSKI, was a prominent Polish artist and illustrator.
Julian TUWIM and his wife Stefania crossed into Portugal and subsequently sailed to Brazil on the vessel Angola in August 1940. In 1942 they traveled from Brazil to the United States and returned to Poland in 1946.
The SLONIMSKI couple emigrated to England, returning to Poland in 1951.
