Lecture: “Sousa Mendes’s List: The Search for Survivors”
Olivia Mattis presents the research project of the Sousa Mendes Foundation to identify, locate and contact individuals and families that received visas from Aristides de Sousa Mendes in the Spring of 1940.
Presidential medal awarded to Aristides de Sousa Mendes in Portugal
President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa of Portugal will posthumously award the Grand Cross of the Order of Liberty to Aristides de Sousa Mendes. The event will take place at the Sousa Mendes family home, Casa do Passal, in Cabanas de Viriato, Portugal. The date of April 3, 2017 is the anniversary of Sousa Mendes’s death in 1954.

The Holocaust and Human Rights Center of Maine pays tribute to Aristides de Sousa Mendes with a screen of the award-winning docudrama, Disobedience: The Sousa Mendes Story on the occasion of Yom Hashoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day. The screening will take place at the Michael Klahr Center. Refreshments will be served.
