Captain Witold Pilecki voluntarily entered the Auschwitz concentration camp, built a secret resistance and sent desperate reports to London and Washington. 947 Days in Auschwitz is a documentary created by Warsaw-based filmmaker Patrick Ney together with the Home Army Museum in Kraków, Poland — home to Pilecki’s eyewitness Auschwitz report. Pilecki’s accounts were smuggled across occupied Europe, reached Churchill and Roosevelt, and were dismissed. This film asks the question history has never fully answered: what if they had listened?

MEET THE SPEAKERS

Jack Fairweather is the bestselling author of The Volunteer, his acclaimed account of Witold Pilecki, the Polish underground officer who volunteered to enter Auschwitz and report on Nazi crimes. The book won the Costa Book Award for Biography and has been translated into 25 languages. A former Daily Telegraph Baghdad Bureau Chief and Washington Post journalist, Fairweather is currently Director of the Pilecki Institute USA. His extensive research into Pilecki’s life and mission helped bring this extraordinary story to a worldwide audience.

Aleksandra Slabisz is Chief of Staff at the Pilecki Institute USA, where she helps advance its mission to preserve and share the histories of those who resisted Nazi and Soviet rule in Poland and across Central and Eastern Europe. Her career spans journalism, nonprofit development, and civic engagement, with more than two decades in New York’s Polish American community. She was a staff writer for Nowy Dziennik, New York’s Polish-language daily, and later covered U.S. politics as a contributor to the Polish national daily Rzeczpospolita.  She holds an M.A. in Diplomacy and International Relations from Seton Hall University.

Kristof (Krzysztof) Kosior, born in Warsaw, Poland, is the great-grandson of Witold Pilecki and is active in promoting the memory of his great-grandfather’s heroic action. He serves on the Board of the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum and the Pilecki Family Museum. A graduate in landscape architecture and project management, he worked for many years at an international construction company. He is currently a LEAN Manager and trainer. He is passionate about history and has participated in and co-founded numerous historical initiatives.  He is an avid cyclist, jogger and woodworker.
